Pets bring a special joy into our lives. They are faithful companions,
loving family members and sometimes even our therapists.
Pet Therapy is a growing trend in medicine and in long term care communities.
Pet therapy enlists the aid of animals in the healing process and in providing
quality of life experiences for seniors. Pet therapy works because of
the magical power of animals to reduce stress and uplift moods (one of
my cats is sweetly curled up next to me as I share these thoughts).
Who experiences more stress on a day to day basis than caregivers? Caregiving
is one of the hardest and most demanding jobs imaginable.
Our firm recently helped host the 1st Annual Caregiver’s Holiday PAWS Pause event. The Caregiver’s
Holiday PAWS Pause was designed to give caregivers and their loved ones
the chance to take a break and experience the stress reducing power of pets.
Here are some observations from attendees of the Caregiver’s Holiday
It was heartwarming to see the pets work their magic at the event. A boisterous
kitten fell asleep instantly in the arms of a senior who was petting and
singing to it. Stan, a very friendly dog wearing a very flattering and
conversation sparking Hawaiian shirt, brought a smile to the face of everyone
who interacted with him. One of the bunnies left the event with pink lipstick
on his face from being kissed.
The event was helpful for the animals as well because they were all from
event partner the SPCA Tampa Bay and they were all available for adoption!
We can’t wait to help bring the 2nd Annual Caregiver’s Holiday PAWS Pause event to the community in
November of 2020!
